Modine PTN Power-Throw™ Horizontal Delivery Unit Heaters

Power Throw™ horizontal delivery unit heaters are ideal for heating large buildings where a number of smaller units can be replaced by a few larger Power Throw™ units. This results in a more economical installation. Their high velocity air delivery results in the greatest heat throw available.

Power Throw™ units are also ideally suited for blanketing doors that frequently open.

Because of high velocity air delivery, care must be taken to avoid directing the air stream at building occupants.

Power Throw™ units operate with either steam or hot water systems.

Features that enhance the popularity of the Power Throw™ horizontal delivery unit heater are:

Lower Installation/Maintenance Cost
• These units are compact and light-weight, requiring fewer man hours to install.
• Integral junction box for ease of electrical wiring.
• Exposed coil for easy cleaning.
• All models through PT/PTN-279 have hanger brackets with 5/8" diameter hanger holes for 3-point suspension.
• All models larger than PT/PTN-279 have hanger brackets with 5/8" diameter hanger holes for 2-point suspension and angle supports for 4-point suspension.

Precision Control over Heat Throw and Spread
• Air distribution is controlled by a standard adjustable position horizontal louver assembly.
• The air stream can be concentrated into a high velocity jet or broadened to cover a greater area.
• Fan blades are properly balanced and pitched to move large volumes of high velocity air at relatively low sound levels.

Low-Outlet Temperature (LOT) Model
• Ideally suited for applications where steam pressures exceed 30 PSI and critical mounting height restrictions exist.
• Due to special coil design, the discharge air temperature of LOT models is approximately the same as the standard unit operating on lower steam pressures.
• Air distribution is increased through higher air volume/velocity.
• Ideal for use in dirty atmospheres because greater fin spacing increases resistance to foreign particle build-up.
High Pressure/Temperature Applications
• 90/10 cupro-nickel coils are offered for high pressure/temperature applications, up to 250 PSI or 400°F.

Heat Throw Down to the Floor
• Modine design assures the correct relationship between air temperature, velocity and volume for greater heat throw.
• Air is delivered to the floor at maximum mounting height, increasing comfort and reducing fuel costs.

Simplified Selection
• Standard model numbers indicate MBH rating at 2-lb. steam pressure and 60°F entering air temperature.

Unit Features
• See Figure 5.1 for picture cutaway.
• Motor-Cooling Cone - Shields motor from soil heat - prolongs life of insulation, windings, and lubricant. Prolongs motor life.
• Coil - Aluminum fins firmly bonded to tubes for maximum heat transfer. Steam and water-carrying passages between extra-heavy steel pipe connections are copper for model PT and cupro-nickel for model PTN.
• Motor - All motors are totally enclosed. Single phase and explosion-proof types include built in thermal operation on specific unit heater models.
• Fan - Accurately balanced to operate quietly and at lowest possible power cost.
• Junction Box - All motor wiring is terminated in a electrical junction box either supplied on the unit heater casing or as an integral part of the motor.
• Horizontal Fins - Exposed for easy cleaning with air hose and brush.
• Casings - Baked-on, gray-green high solids paint applied over rust - and corrosion - resistance treated steel lasts longer.

(Power code 01- 115/60/1 units are 3-4 days, all others 3 weeks)

General Notes:
• As always, shipping in the lower 48 states is included.
• Full 1-year parts warranty on the entire unit.

Leadtimes:
-Standard "PT-PTN" units in 115/60/1 power are typically stocked.  Plan 3-4 days to process the order + 4-5 days for delivery.
-Non-standard voltages, motors, and coil types are typically 3 weeks + 4-5 days for delivery.

These leadtimes are typical, but can change due to factory loading.  For precise leadtimes and current stock availablility, please contact us.

Control Sequences:
The following control sequence descriptions are typical for steam/hot water unit heaters.

1) Intermittent Fan Operation - Hot Coil
When a room thermostat calls for heat, the motor is energized.  Hot water or steam is continuously supplied to the unit heater, even when the motor is not running.  When the thermostat is satisfied, the motor is de-energized (Thermostat available in accessories section).

2) Continuous Fan Operation - Intermittent Hot/Cold Coil
When a room thermostat calls for heat, a valve is opened, allowing steam or hot water to enter the unit heater.  When the thermostat is satisfied, the valve is closed.  The fan runs continuously (Thermostat available in accessories section).

3) Intermittent Fan Operation - Intermittent Hot/Cold Coil
When a room thermostat calls for heat, the motor is energized.  At the same time, a valve is opened allowing steam or hot water to enter the unit heater.  An aquastat may be attached to the supply or return piping to prevent fan operation until the coil is adequately heated to avoid cold air delivery.  When the thermostat is satisfied, the valve closes and the motor is de-energized (Thermostat and aquastat available in accessories section).

Detailed Installation and Operation Instructions:

Every heater will ship with detailed installation instructions.  You can also view detailed installation instructions by visiting: Modine.

Ordering Information: These unit heaters will ship from Modine's manufacturing facility in Virginia.  All standard 115/1 phase units (In power code "01" voltage column) will ship out in 3-4 days + delivery.  All other voltages have additional costs and will ship out in 2-3 weeks + delivery. Please contact us for special pricing on non-standard units.
